UAE Journalists Association enquires about Gulf News correspondent aboard the fleet

Abu Dhabi, June 1, 2010 (WAM)- The UAE Journalists Association has called on the International Federation of Journalists to intervene to enquire about the fate of Dubai-based Gulf News journalist Abbas Al Lawati, in the wake of the Israeli attack on the relief fleet off Gaza Strip coast. Mohammed Yousif, Chairman of the Association said he held contacts since yesterday with Jim Bumelha, chairman of the International Federation of Journalists and the general secretariat of the federation in Brussels to move quickly to establish the fate of the journalist Lawati, whose contact was lost since dawn yesterday. He added that urgent messages have been dispatched to the international organisations to protect the journalists. He called on them to set up an international panel to investigate aggressors who exposed the lives of journalists and civilians on board in danger. It is a clear violation to the international laws. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
