Cyclone Phet unlikely to affect UAE: NCMS
Abu Dhabi, June 3, 2010 (WAM)- The UAE is unlikely to be directly under the influence of the tropical cyclone "Phet", now developing in the Arabian Sea, and is forecast to only result into gusty winds of more than 40km/h and a rough sea of up to 13 ft. on the country's east coastline on Thursday night, according by the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).
The recent satellite images and weather readings indicate possible inland lower horizontal visibility and warned against seafaring off Eastern coasts between Thursday and Saturday, it reported.
The meteorology centre says recent satellite images and readings show the cyclone have already moved in a north-western direction towards Omani eastern coasts during the past 12 hours and is now cantered at 17.7 degree North and 60.5 degree East, about 360 kilometres off Omani eastern coastline Phet is still expected to head towards Indian and Pakistani coasts later on. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
