Temperatures in UAE expected to rise following Phet's impact

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said temperatures would go up in the UAE from Sunday following the impact of Phet, a tropical cyclone.
Tropical cyclone Phet killed 24 people and left 4 missing in Oman before it barrelled on towards Pakistan where it killed 1 person, according to media reports and the head of Oman's civil defence force.
The dead included three expatriates and a non-commissioned officer of the Civil Defence who was trying to rescue a family from surging waters in the northwest. Efforts are ongoing to find two people who went missing in wadis.
Impact on UAE weather
In the UAE, there was light to moderate rain in the UAE [in Kalba in Sharjah] on Friday evening and it was cloudy in some areas [apparently due to the impact of Phet which caused heavy rains in Oman], a duty forecaster at NCMS told Gulf News on Saturday. "But there is no further possibility of rain in the UAE as Phet has moved away from Oman and reached Pakistan," he said. Heavy thunderstorm lashed parts of Pakistan on Saturday. As Phet made a landfall, a woman died and four others were wounded when the roofs of their houses collapsed in Malaband and Pushkan, according to media reports.
NCMS had warned fishermen in the UAE not to go to sea until late on Saturday as the sea was rough. "Fishermen have to contact us before going to the sea even on Sunday [today] morning," the forecaster said.
The temperature in the UAE will start rising on Sunday and the trend is expected to continue for another two days, he said. The maximum temperature may go up to 46 degrees in interior areas and 40 to 41 degrees in coastal areas on Sunday, he said. It may be cloudy in mountainous areas on the eastern coast, he said.
"Day temperatures tend to rise gradually, with moderate winds in general, especially over the internal areas, causing blowing dust or sand over the open lands. The sea condition will be slight to moderate in general, and rough over the Oman sea," the forecaster explained.
The humidity will also go up by Monday night, he said.
Owing to Phet, wet weather conditions prevailed in Oman and its adjoining areas in the UAE with low to medium clouds since early yesterday, the forecaster said. The weather condition started to settle on Saturday.
Although Phet did not directly affect the UAE it caused rough sea conditions on the eastern coast until Saturday, he said. Contact NCMS can be contacted on02-02- 6667776, web: http://www.ncms.ae – Gulf News
