UAE Red Crescent to ship 926 tons of dates in charity

Abu Dhabi, June 6, 2010 (WAM)- In implementation of the directives of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has started the shipment of dates to fraternal and friendly countries for distribution during the month of Ramadan.
The charity project is supported by H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces and is overseen by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Rulers Representative in the Western Region and the Chairman of the RCA. Containers and convoys carrying 926 tons of dates will shortly leave heading for the target countries in preparation for distribution before the Holy month of fasting.
Dates and plain water are traditionally used by Muslims for breaking the day-long fasting at the sunset. Dispatching dates to fraternal and friendly countries is a tradition of the UAE and was heralded by the founding father of the country Late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in his quest for helping people in need. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
