UAE establishes diplomatic relations with the Marshall Islands
New York - June 6, 2010 (WAM)- The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of the Marshall Islands have established diplomatic relations on ambassador level. Both countries signed a joint communiqué on Thursday 03rd June 2010 at the UN headquarters establishing the diplomatic relations.
Ahmed Al-Jarman, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, signed the communiqué representing the government of UAE while, Phillip Muller Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to the United Nations signed representing his country.
The Communiqué said that the Governments of the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of the Marshall Islands, guided by their mutual willingness to promote mutual understanding and strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, social, humanitarian, cultural and scientific areas based upon the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and the norms of international law; And respecting the principles of equality among States, national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of other States; Have decided to establish diplomatic relations, at ambassadorial level, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of April 18, 1961, as of the date of the signing of this Joint Communiqué.
After the signing ceremony both ambassadors discussed joint relations between UAE and the Marshall Islands in political, economic and cultural fields, and pondered over ways for bolstering them through mutual visits by officials and economic cooperation.
The Marshall Islands is a Micronesian nation of atolls and islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, just west of the International Date Line and just north of the Equator. This country of roughly 62,000 people is located north of Nauru and Kiribati, east of the Federated States of Micronesia. In 1986 the Marshall Islands gained independence under a Compact of Free Association with the United States. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
