Emirates lands in Berlin

Dubai, June 8, 2010 (WAM)- For the first time, the international Airline of the UAE will land in the German capital. As the world's largest A380 customer, Emirates is going to showcase the new flagship of its 147 wide-body aircraft fleet in Berlin in the presence of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group. With its presence in Berlin, Emirates starts also the final countdown to FIFA World Cup 2010. Emirates is Official Partner of the FIFA World Cup - the world's greatest footballing spectacle.
The Emirates super jumbo, being known for its generous interior design, will be flown directly from Airbus' plant at Hamburg-Finkenwerder to ILA grounds in Berlin-Schoenefeld, to be officially handed over to Emirates as the airline's 10th A380. The new aircraft will be presented at the first two air show days. The first A380 was already delivered to Emirates in June two years ago. Emirates was the first airline to order the A380 and ordered a total of 58, worth approximately US$18.8 billion. Emirates' large A380 orders enabled Airbus the launch of the A380 project.
The much-praised Emirates aircraft differs from other A380 aircraft. Emirates offers an Onboard Lounge for First Class and Business Class passengers, the complete of the upper deck is dedicated to premium passengers. Towards the front, First Class passengers can relax in Private Suites. Furthermore, Emirates is offering two Onboard Shower Spas and new generation fully-flat beds in Business Class. Available to all onboard is Emirates' award-winning ‘ice' (information, communication, entertainment) in-flight entertainment system. It brings more than 1,200 channels of on-demand pure enjoyment.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group, said: "The A380 is a great aircraft and our passengers worldwide are enthusiastic about this new dimension of air travel. We are very happy to be able to showcase our new flagship aircraft and our excellent cabin product to ILA visitors in Berlin on two days." "Bringing the A380 to ILA in Berlin underlines the importance of the air show and our strong desire to operate the German capital introducing scheduled nonstop services to our international Dubai hub as soon as possible. With the A380 we operate an aircraft that is partly assembled in Germany and that we deploy worldwide as ambassador of European high level engineering. At the same time we are very proud about the fact that our investment of more than 32 billion US Dollars for already delivered or ordered Airbus aircraft has substantially helped to create and support many German jobs at Airbus and in the entire German economy. Alone the A380 programme adds an estimate of 40.000 direct and indirect German jobs", continues Sheikh Ahmed.
Emirates' A380 superjumbos are serving London Heathrow, Toronto, Paris, Jeddah, Bangkok, Seoul, Sydney and Auckland. In March 2010, the airline also announced the start of A380 services to Beijing from 1st August and Manchester from 1st September. Emirates' A380 will make a much-anticipated return to New York on 31st October on one of the airline's double daily JFK routes. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
