IRENA Statute effective from July 8: Sultan Al Jaber
Abu Dhabi, June 15, 2010 (WAM)- Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Chief Executive of Masdar, special envoy on energy and climate change affairs, described the enforcement of the statute of Irena in short time as an important step to ensure the support of IRENA member countries. He added that the fast ratification of statute really demonstrates the commitment being shown in IRENA by the Member States.
The remarks follow the announcement of Irena secretariat that 25 States ratified the statute on June 8, and the statute would be effective on July 8.
Al Jaber said he was proud of the fact that the UAE has worked alongside Irena, prompting other countries to ratify the statute. He noted that we are looking forward to the administrative committee meeting late this month to hold the preparatory meeting on Oct. 4. He added the UAE leadership paved the way for effective pioneer role.
Al Jaber noted that Abu Dhabi will host from June 28-29 the preparatory meeting for the ministerial energy conference. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
