RCA's first humanitarian convoy arrives in Kyrgyzstan
Tashkent - June 21, 2010 (WAM)- The UAE Red Crescent Authority's (RCA) first humanitarian relief aid will arrive yesterday to Andijan area at Uzbek-Kyrgyz borders, where Kyrgyz displaced people stay in the wake of recent violence in the region.
Headed by Dr Saleh Al Tayie, deputy secretary general of Relief and Projects Affairs, RCA, the delegation, who arrived in Tashkent last night bought huge quantities of blankets, food stuff and medicines from the local Uzbek market. The RCA delegation agreed with the local traders to prepare convoy of trucks to head today from Tashkent to the borders, where they will find the refugees.
Dr Tayie held yesterday a meeting with the Uzbek Health Minister Adkham Akramov and conveyed the condolences from HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of Ruler in Western Region, Chairman of the RCA and officials of the RCA over the victims of the recent violence in Kyrgyzstan.
Dr Tayie told Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the Uzbek official briefed the RCA delegation about dire humanitarian conditions, adding that he urged the RCA delegation to urgently dispatch quantities of medicines to prevent spread of the diseases among the refugees.
The Uzbek minister commended the UAE efforts under President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on assisting the displaced at the borders. The RCA delegation held a series of meetings with humanitarian bodies to coordinate the field work and send urgent relief aid. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
