Dubai Studio City marks Sixth Anniversary of Location Approval Services Department

Dubai, June 24, 2010 (WAM)- Dubai Studio City, the film and broadcast industry-dedicated free zone and a member of TECOM Investments Media Cluster, capped the sixth anniversary of the Location Approval Services (LAS) department with a gala ceremony that recognised 20 government entities for their key role in facilitating permits for film shoots.
DSC's single-window Location Approval Services department expedites and facilitates the approval process for filming and photography activities in Dubai and the UAE. Providing a full bouquet of enabling services including location scouting, visa, travel, accommodation arrangements and access to talent, the LAS department has facilitated the filming of 3,284 projects until the end of 2009.
Held at the Grand Hyatt - Dubai yesterday, the ceremony was attended by senior officials of a number of government departments that work closely with the Location Approval Services department.
Jamal Al Sharif, Managing Director of Dubai Media City and Dubai Studio City, said: "As a destination that offers a wide range of compelling locales for film shoots, Dubai is firmly placed on the radar of regional and global studios. The LAS department provides one of the principal services under Dubai Studio City by offering instant convenience to filmmakers by expediting and facilitating all aspects of filming in Dubai and the UAE.
"The support of the various government departments in streamlining the filming process by providing the necessary permissions in a timely manner is integral to saving production costs and meeting tight filming schedules." Dubai Studio City receives an increasing number of applications for filming from well-developed film and entertainment markets such as Egypt, India, the US and the UK. Filmmakers from other regions' emerging industries have also indicated their preference for Dubai as a location for pre- as well as post-production activities.
Some of the projects facilitated by LAS include movies such as ‘Race' and ‘Partner' from India; ‘Dr Who' series from the UK; ‘Amazing Race' and Paris Hilton's ‘Best Friend Forever' from the US; ‘Andaleeb Al Dooki' from Egypt; ‘City of Life' feature film from UAE; ‘Keif Al Hal' from KSA and ‘Dream Boat' from Germany.
Spread over an area of 22 million sq ft, Dubai Studio City features 14 fully equipped sound stages, a 3.5 million sq ft back lot for outdoor shooting, commercial offices, pre-built studios, a business centre and post-production studios. The development includes three sound stages - one 15,000 sq ft unit and two units of 25,000 sq ft each.
