UAE donates US$2million to UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage programme
Paris - The United Arab Emirates has donated US$2 million in support of the UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage. The donation agreement was signed here yesterday by Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture '&' Heritage (ADACH) and the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova.
UAE's Permanent Representative at the UNESCO Abdullah Musaba Al Nuaimi told 'WAM' that the agreement was signed as part of the country's support to the efforts made by the UNESCO to safeguard global intangible cultural heritage.
"This agreement will certainly contribute to strengthening plans of developing and poor countries, particularly in Africa, to improve the way they deal with their respective intangible heritage and to develop their national capabilities in that field," he added.
For her part, Bokova praised UAE's contribution to the UNESCO's activities.
"The UAE is in the forefront of the countries that seek to safeguard intangible cultural heritage. Yesterday's agreement would help us provide support to the intangible heritage in the developing countries which do not have enough financial or human resources to do so." – Emirates News Agency, WAM
