Mohammed bin Rashid inaugurates the phase one of Al Maktoum International Airport

Dubai, July 4, 2010 (WAM)- The Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated officially on Thursday the first phase of Al Maktoum International Airport at Jebel Ali in the presence of Dubai Crown Prince HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Dubai Deputy Ruler HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Sheikh Mohammed toured the construction work being executed in Dubai Aviation City, which includes residential, tourist and logistics cities, as well as multipurpose and various service premises.
The Vice President began his tour with the building of the Dubai Aviation City Establishment, where he was briefed on the landmarks and components of the city in the map. Then he met all employees of the huge project ranging from engineers, technicians to administrators. Sheikh Mohammed congratulated them for the completion of the phase one of the airport as per schedule. Sheikh Mohammed and entourage boarded buses to tour about 140km square of land area, whose total cost of premises touches about US$3billion. They toured the arrival and departure hall, where they were told the preparations were afoot to complete it by March 2011.
At the inauguration, Al Maktoum will constitute a turning point for the aviation in the UAE. Its capacity is expected to reach five million passengers annually with possibility of increment to seven million passengers. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
