Abu Dhabi Police music band celebrates its 47th Anniversary

Abu Dhabi, July 7, 2010 (WAM)- The Department of Information Security at the general secretariat of the office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior organised yesterday a musical evening in Al Ain shopping mall to celebrate the 47th anniversary of Abu Dhabi Police music band, which is the first orchestra in the emirate.
The band played several military and heritage pieces led by the British musical expert Andrew Belen amid the admiration and applause of the audience and the mall's visitors.
Captain Ibrahim Abdul Rahim Ismail Al Hosani, head of the Music Section at the Police Schools Department said that the Police Music Band was established in 1963 with only 60 players. Now it has 123 distinguished players in Abu Dhabi and 86 players in Al Ain.
He also stated that due to this occasion, the band will go on a tour that will include, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Western Region to let the public know more about this band's role in the community, which does not only participating in Police events, but also in all national events and activities to entertain the public.
Al Hosani also added that the band has participated in an international musical festival in Germany and a joint music festival in Dubai that included police music bands from the GCC countries. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
