Mohammed bin Zayed inspects works at UAE University's new campus
Abu Dhabi, July 12, 2010 (WAM)- H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces yesterday visited the site of new UAE University campus in Al Ain. He inspected the progress of work on the project, scheduled for completion in mid 2011.
The new campus is designed to accommodate 15,000 students. It is being built on a 285,000 square meter plot. When completed, the campus will consist of administration buildings, educational, recreational and residential facilities.
Sheikh Mohammed toured the building's residential areas, classrooms, laboratories, library, ceremonies hall and other sports, social and housing facilities including 10 buildings for accommodating 2,500 female students, a 50 metre long, eight lane Olympic swimming pool, indoor games like volley ball, basket ball, tennis as well as restaurants, cafes, and a supermarket.
Female students will start their new academic year 2010-2011 at the new campus while classes for their male peers at the new buildings will begin in the academic year 2011-2012.
While praising President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his unstinted support for higher education and the UAE University in particular, Sheikh Mohammed pledged to continue efforts for creating an ideal learning environment for UAE children to enable then attain better educational standards to fuel the development wheel.
Sheikh Mohammed said he was satisfied with the state-of-the-art academic and housing facilities and equipment he had seen at the new campus which he billed as a holistic educational institution carrying the message of education, instruction, and enlightenment based on the world's highest standards.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi then proceeded to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) for women where he was briefed by Saed Arar, Manager of Infrastructure Projects Mubadala Development Company, about the features of the faculty which contains a 150-seat auditorium fully equipped with advanced audio-visual aides and a suite for people with special need.
Through its wholly owned subsidiary Al Hikma Development Company, Mubadala Development Company is the key investor of the project under a 28 year concession agreement with the University that will enable the development of the new campus on a BOOT (Build Own Operate and Transfer) basis. The educational development is the first of its kind in the region and the largest in the world to be carried out by the Public-Private Partnership.

Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Member of the Executive Council, Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority, Dr Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Deputy Secretary general of the Executive Council, Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council, Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Under Secretary of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, Walled Al Moqarrab Al Muhairi, Chief Operating Office of Mubadala, and a number of senior officials. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
