Mohammed bin Zayed donates 35, 000 palm seedlings to Liwa Dates Festival 2010

Abu Dhabi, July 20, 2010 (WAM)- His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces has ordered donation of 35, 000 palm seedlings to Liwa Dates Festival 2010 in recognition for organisers and participants' interest to preserve the heritage.
The gesture was made during the visit of Sheikh Mohammed yesterday morning to the sixth edition of Liwa Dates Festival 2010, which is held in Western Region under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
The palm seedlings will be distributed to the winners and participants at the festival.
Sheikh Mohammed commended huge participation and keenness of exhibitors and organisers to make it a success, expressing his admirations about the showcased products, which reflect values of the forefathers and national heritage.
He called for preserving the national heritage, which is the spirit of UAE, being passed from generation to another.
For his part, Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, chairman of the higher organising committee, said the donation represents the awareness of Sheikh Mohammed about the agricultural development intended to achieve self reliance and diversification of income sources.
Organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture '&' Heritage (ADACH), the event runs until July 27, this month.
The move of Sheikh Mohammed is aimed to continue the process of giving and charitable foundations and supporting the course of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which is pursued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The move also aims to harness the development of date palm cultivation by increasing the number of trees and the spread cultivated area across the UAE, as well as increasing production and improving the quality of dates, and seek to innovate better ways of producing of the finest types.
Sheikh Mohammed visited all pavilions at the festival. He was accompanied by Abdullah Mohair Kitbi, Undersecretary of the Ruler Representative's Court in Western Region, Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi's Court, Mohamed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Director General of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), Chairman of the Organising Committee and Obaid Khalfan Mazrouei Director of the festival. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
