UAE book industry displays work at Assilah Festival
Assilah, Morocco - July 21, 2010 (WAM)- A range of Emirati books and publications are on display at the Book Industry and Literary Lounge at the Assilah Festival in Morocco.
Presented by Kitab, an initiative of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), the National Library, and the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. The exhibition provides a place for festival goers to relax, browse through recent Emirati publications and learn more about the publishing industry in the UAE and the various projects that are spearheaded by ADACH.
More than 500 titles are on display in the Book Lounge - encompassing all of ADACH's different publishing initiatives. These include the National Library, the translation initiative Kalima, Qalam a project designed to nurture young Emirati and GCC writers and the Poetry Academy.
Among the titles on display are a range of children's books, books of photography, biographies of prominent UAE personalities and poets as well as a number of more specialised research titles on Nabati poetry and other subjects and several dozen reference texts.
The Emirati Book Industry and Literary Lounge will run at the Assilah Festival until the 27th of July. After this, the books will be presented to the Prince Sultan Bin Bandar library in Assilah. Several volumes will also be housed at the UAE's embassy in Morocco. This will form the first stage in the ongoing exchange of publications between the Assilah Forum Foundation and ADACH.
An extensive series of events have been organised by ADACH at this year's Assilah Festival - including poetry readings, musical performances, screenings of Emirati films and panels on cultural diplomacy and safeguarding the region's musical heritage.
More than forty-five countries from around the world are participating in this year's Assilah festival. It is one of the most important art and culture festivals in the Middle East and North Africa and seeks to promote cultural exchange and create a culture of open dialogue between different countries. Its ethos is to celebrate the values of peace and tolerance.
