UAE is committed to assisting Afghanistan: Abdullah
Kabul - July 21, 2010 (WAM)- UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan reiterated yesterday commitment of the leadership, government and people of the UAE to continue their support and assistance for efforts to maintain security and stability in Afghanistan.
''The UAE represented by the government and non-government organisations and civil society institutions have delivered development programmes that contributed to creating job opportunities and improving living conditions of the people of Afghanistan. They also supported the education sector through building of schools and universities that have contributed directly to generate Afghani cadres to serve their country's interest,'' Sheikh Abdullah told the concluding session of the international donors conference in Kabul.
In his address, Sheikh Abdullah noted that the health sector had received focused attention through the construction of hospitals and clinics in different provinces of Afghanistan. Medical professionals were also trained to run these health facilities. The conference was opened by Afghani President Hamid Karzai in the presence of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and foreign ministers and delegates of 60 countries. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
