Musical Band of Abu Dhabi Police presents unique performances at Liwa Date Festival

Abu Dhabi, July 22, 2010 (WAM)- The folkloric performance tent at the 2010 Liwa Date Festival was transformed to a destination for Emirati music and folklore lovers; that the space never ceases to be stuffed with visitors all day long, for enjoying the exceptional performances presented by the musical band of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters.
Visitors from different nationalities revealed their admiration for the variety of performances presented by the band including pieces from the Emirati heritage such as "Alayyala", as well as modern pieces for contemporary songs well famed among Emiratis.
"The band stands on a relatively long history, as it was established in 1963, comprising, at the time, of 60 musicians compared to the army of 200 performers, of which 120 musicians are from Abu Dhabi and 80 from Al Ain, that make up the band today," commented Captain Ismail Al Mushraf, the band's supervisor.
"The band's uniform encompasses two colours; the red and the white, representing its history, whereas the band started with a red uniform at the outset and later switched to a white one," he added.
The band has always taken part in the Liwa Date Festival, as well as all other national celebrations and events for the purpose of pleasing the public through distinguished performances, highlighting the social role of the police force aiming ultimately for the satisfaction of the people.
"In each event, the band participates with an appropriate number of musicians, with the exception of the major national event such as the UAE National Day, where all the 200 members are always present. We also participate in international events and competitions, such as major events in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and some European events, such as Germany, where we recently participated in a festival," Al Mushraf said.
"We always prepare ourselves well for any event through relentless training two weeks ahead, especially the pieces that we are supposed to perform to ensure that the band appears in the excellent manner familiar to all people," he concluded. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
