Abu Dhabi Folk Dance Group takes part in WOMAD - London this summer
Abu Dhabi, July 22, 2010 (WAM)- The newly established Abu Dhabi Folk Dance Group will participate in the WOMAD - London Festival at the end of July and the play "Zayed and the Dream" will be presented in London in early August.
According to Abdullah Al Ameri, Director of the Culture and Arts Department at the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), the participation of the Abu Dhabi Folk Dance Group, which was established by ADACH last month, is part of a strategy aimed at strengthening the dialogue amongst civilisations and opening up a cultural exchange between nations and peoples. It also aims to introduce the heritage of the UAE to people throughout the world.
"Through our participation in this project we aim to point a spotlight on the culture, heritage and inherent traditions of the UAE and present them to the world," said Ameri.
"The Abu Dhabi Folk Dance Group's first appearance outside the UAE since its inception aims to promote ADACH's vision. This vision looks to encourage a convergence of nations, and increase the levels of communication between cultures and peoples through the mediums of music, art and creativity," he added.
Nasser Al Junaibi, Head of the Abu Dhabi Folk Dance Group, said that the group's participation in WOMAD and "Zayed and the Dream" play marks the beginning of a series of effective partnerships. These are being undertaken in order to revive the UAE's artistic heritage through the use of artistic displays.
The Group will stage a variety of traditional Emirati folk performances. They are highly proficient in this genre and have created an artistic framework which reflects a true and realistic image of the richness of the heritage of the UAE and its musical background.
"The Group performs using homemade instruments which serve to emphasise the inherently unique nature of their work. The Group is committed to supporting the implementation of ADACH's strategy which aims to preserve the heritage of the UAE and ensure that its message is delivered at a global level. In this way the world will be able to understand the country's history and culture," said Junaibi.– Emirates News Agency, WAM
