Environment Agency's soil survey results presented to Abu Dhabi Police
Abu Dhabi, Aug 2, 2010 (WAM)- The General Directorate of the Abu Dhabi Police has received a copy of the Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi's (EAD) Soil Survey report for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in order for it to be used as an aid in criminal investigation.
Razan Al Mubarak, EAD's Assistant Secretary General commended the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police and its longstanding cooperation with EAD. "At EAD, we are proud that the results of our Soil Survey have so far benefited many different users in the Emirate. Thanks to the maps we've produced, farmers, planners and developers can now better evaluate the potential of soil for agricultural and engineering purposes. The survey will help yet another important stakeholder of ours, the Abu Dhabi Police, seeing it become an important tool for them to solve crime," she said.
The Soil Survey report provides a complete log and maps of all land in Abu Dhabi. It helps decision makers to make better informed decisions when it comes to land use. This survey will also contribute in defining the areas which are applicable for agricultural reclamation, and help in understanding how soil is a major part of the environmental system. The report is a great learning tool as well; local cadres can keep up to date with Abu Dhabi's geological patterns by studying its biological and mineral contents.
Colonel AbdulRahman Al Hammadi, Director of the Forensic Evidence Department at Abu Dhabi Police, stressed how this report will assist in solving crimes when they analyze the soil at crime scenes. He explained that it is possible to link a criminal or suspect to a crime scene by using soil residue found in the clothes, shoes or inside vehicles. Soil evidence can be used to solve a number of cases, from murders, property damage, and theft to the illegal hunting of animals.
A MOU was signed between the two parties which encourages cooperation in fields that would primarily benefit the environment, as well as provide the Police with full support to execute its missions and to achieve the overall strategic priorities of the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police's plan 2008-2012. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
