RCA relief aid arrives in Gaza

Gaza - Aug 10, 2010 (WAM)- Ten aid trucks comprising the first shipment of relief aid donated by the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) have arrived Gaza Strip through the Karm Abu Salim crossing, south of the Strip.
UNRWA officials said arrival of remaining humanitarian assistance will be completed within the coming few days due the huge crowd on the crossing point. They said the entry of ten trucks, loaded with hundred tons of flour was coordinated with the Israeli side. UNRWA is planning to distribute the assistance to thousands of needy families in Gaza in the coming days and weeks.
John Ging, Director of UNRWA Operations in Gaza, said the RCA relief supplies consist of 550 tons of flour, 150 tons of sugar and 100 tons of rice. He said the RCA is playing a central role in assisting Palestinian refugees and supporting UNRWA's health, educational and housing services.
He highlighted the UNRWA's strategic partnership with the RCA which, he affirmed, demonstrates the commitment of the UAE, its government and people to support UNRWA and improve living conditions of Palestinian refugees. He thanked the UAE leaders for their great support. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
