Khalifa Foundation distributes emergency aid in flood-struck Pakistani provinces
Abu Dhabi, Aug 8, 2010 (WAM)- The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (KBZF) has begun distributing humanitarian aid in the flood-affected areas of Pakistan in response to directives by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. The Foundation is giving out 6000 tents, 130000 bags of wheat flour, 3000 bags of lentil, 15000 food packages as well as urgently needed medicines and medical emergency kits.
Priority is given by the Foundation to the worst affected provinces of Swat, Peshawar, Nowshera and Rajanpur with distribution of food aid in other areas to begin in the coming few days.
The Foundation's Pakistan operation is part of its commitment to play a global humanitarian role to mitigate the suffering of victims of the tragic and devastating floods that started on July 29th. The disaster has so far affected 4.5 million people, claiming more than 1,500 lives and destroying more than 150,000 homes. 550,000 people have been evacuated from Sindh and Punjab provinces. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
