Sharjah Transport carries 3.5 million passengers in H1

Sharjah, Aug 9, 2010 (WAM)- Sharjah Transport Corporation (STC) carried more than 3.535 million passengers from Sharjah to different destinations in the country during the first half of 2010 with an average growth estimated to 10.9 % in corresponding to the same period last year which achieved 3.169 millions.
The STC Director General Abdullah Mohammed Al Zarri said that one of the main factors that drove this growth is the operation of five new routes between the first of January and 30th of June 2010 in addition to the rising number of trips which jumped to 114,934 trips with an increase amounting to 35,655 in correspondence to the same period in the first half of 2009 where the number of the trips estimated to 79,279 with an increase of 31%.
Adel Khalil, Head of Inter-city Transport, said Sharjah-Dubai route was the busiest line with passengers surging to 2.429,849 million in the first half of the year, up 15,090 passengers over the corresponding half of last year. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
