DoT to increase daily bus trips in Madinat Zayed
The Bus Office of Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi has announced the launch of new bus services linking Madinat Zayed in the Western Region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. As a result of these new services, the number of daily bus trips within the Western Region will increase from 680 to 750. Since its launch in the Western Region, DoT has unveiled a total of 30 bus services, helping over 3 million passengers to commute.
DoT's public bus services in the Western Region covers Liwa Area [3 services], Madinat Zayed [7 services], Al Ruwais [4 services], Gayathi Area [3 services], Tarif [2 services], Al Selei Area [2 services] and Delma Island [2 services] besides the services that links Abu Dhabi City to Liwa, Madinat Zayed and Ruwais. The average distance between the areas in Western Region is approximately 100 km, and the total population is around 130,000, thus posing a major challenge for DoT, given its huge geographical spread and sparse population density.
The new services, which run through the city linking Madinat Zayed ADNOC FOD and Camel Farms, thereby fully connecting Madinat Zayed, is part of DoT's mandate to boost transportation within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and increasing mobility and comfort to the community. These include four bus services on Route Nos. 661, 662, 663, 664 in addition to the new Route 665. The services are operational at a frequency of every 30 minutes between 06:45 hours and 23:15 hours every day. During the Holy Month of Ramadan, the services operate at a frequency of every 30 minutes between 06:45 hours and 17:45 hours; and between 20:15 hours and 01:15 hours [next day], again every half an hour. A total of 16 buses are operational in the local services.
Commenting on the new services, Saeed Mohammed Fadel Al-Hameli, General Manager of the Public Bus Office at DoT, said "As part of our strategic blueprint of improvements for the new routes, DoT plans to expand its bus transport services to link Madinat Zayed, offering transportation comfort and connectivity. We have taken into account the need of these services. The Madinat Zayed bus link is part of DoT's strategic plans to upgrade the public transport services and infrastructure to match the current and future needs of the Emirate and offer safe, secure and environmentally responsible transport solutions in line with Abu Dhabi 2030 vision." DoT recently launched two bus services in Delma Island as part of its endeavour to develop a world-class integrated public transport network catering to the needs of the community in different parts of the Emirate. The new services are operational on a fixed schedule, in tandem with the timings of the ferry services. Through these services, DoT aims to provide effective and convenient transport solutions to the residents by integrating the road and water public transport modes. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
