RCA immunisation drive starts in Pakistan
Islamabad - September 30, 2010 (WAM)- The fourth UAE Red Crescent Authority medical team arrived here today to carry out the second phase of an immunisation programme for women and children against tetanus, measles and polio in partnership with the UNICEF. Children will also be given vitamin A supplements. Immediately after arriving, the RCA team met with Dr. Azhar Ibrahim, Health Specialist at UNICEF Pakistan Country, to discuss the immunisation plan. The two sides agreed to launch two-phase campaign in Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa region, north west of Pakistan.
The first drive will take one week while the second 10-day phase will cover Dawood and Tahta in Sindh region, south Pakistan. The first phase will vaccinate 180,000 internally displaced persons. The medical team will then be deployed in the Sindh region for the second phase of the programme. The first phase saw the vaccination of 625,000 women and children while the second one will target 850,000. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
