Masdar CEO opens European Future Energy Forum in London

London - Oct 21. 2010 (WAM)- Abu Dhabi strives to be a catalyst for greater international dialogue and collaboration - both public and private - to maximise the effectiveness of the world's response to the challenges of energy security and climate change, said Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Masdar CEO '&' Managing Director.
Al Jaber was delivering the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the second annual European Future Energy Forum (EFEF) which began in London yesterday. The forum, which will run from 19-21 October at the ExCel conference centre, was developed by Masdar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Mubadala Development Company, to provide an open global platform for collaboration and dialogue. EFEF is also sponsored by the UK government's international trade promotion arm, UK Trade and Investment.
EFEF is part of the Future Energy series of events that includes the World Future Energy Summit held annually at ADNEC in Abu Dhabi. This year's forum will highlight Abu Dhabi's growing investment opportunities and its emergence as a global renewable energy hub.
The forum brings together the renewable energy and clean technology industry to explore business opportunities, showcase the latest technological solutions and create an environment for discussion among business leaders, industry experts, academics and policy makers.
"The renewable energy and clean technology solutions the world needs today will not be driven by one country alone. They will be found across borders and built between nations. They will be stimulated by collaboration and founded on public-private partnerships. That is why, the visionary leadership of the United Arab Emirates, has placed great emphasis on creating the global platforms, required to advance collaboration in this sector", said Al Jaber.
Other prominent figures addressing the forum included, HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales (written statement), David Cameron, UK Prime Minister (video message) and Chris Huhne, UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.
In a welcome address to the forum HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, wrote: "Among other things, the European Future Energy Forum is a major opportunity to form partnerships and facilitate investment. The challenge of developing and deploying clean technologies is global and will not be met without co-operation and knowledge sharing. This is well understood by Masdar, which has reached out to the whole world in its active pursuit of clean energy technologies - including by taking a 20% stake in the London Array offshore wind project.
I wish the participants of the European Future Energy Forum every success in their endeavours and trust that they too will make a notable contribution to global sustainability". – Emirates News Agency, WAM
