WAM, Xinhua discusses co-operation

Abu Dhabi, Nov 10, 2010 (WAM)- The Emirates News Agency (WAM) and Chinese News Agency, Xinhua, have discussed ways to promote relations and cooperation. The two sides reviewed ways of putting into force a bilateral agreement and exchanging photos and TV news. The agreement was signed back in 2000 by H.H Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and then Minister of Minister of Information and Culture, during a visit to China.
During their visit to WAM, members of the Xinhua delegation toured different sections and were briefed on its establishment and history as the first news agency to transmit news along with photographs and TV footages worldwide.
Six years ago, WAM started broadcasting TV news footages to over 600 client TV stations and publishing photographs to all international news agencies and dailies.
Chairman of the Chinese delegation expressed appreciation by the UAE pavilion at Expo Shanghai 2010 which attracted a total of two million visitors and greatly impressed the public, Chinese media and international media which described it as one of the best pavilions in venue of the event.
During their visit to the country, members of the Chinese delegation visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Abu Dhabi Media Company.
A survey undertaken by one of the top universities in Shanghai revealed that the UAE Pavilion had the highest popularity among the pavilions of 189 countries at EXPO 2010. The survey, carried out by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was based on interviews at EXPO with 1500 visitors.
The news was carried by China News and Shanghai Daily which commented: "The United Arab Emirates Pavilion was chosen as the favourite foreign pavilion, followed by the German and Russian pavilions, according to the survey". – Emirates News Agency, WAM
