UAE celebrates International Children's Day

Abu Dhabi, Nov 22, 2010 (WAM)- HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the UAE General Women's Union and of the Family Development Foundation, hailed the great achievements of the UAE under the leadership of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the field of child welfare.
In a comment made on the occasion of UAE's participation in the celebrations marking the International Children's Day, which falls on 20th November, Sheikha Fatima, who is also the chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Maternity and Childhood, stressed that several unprecedented initiatives of the country had played major role in guaranteeing child welfare and ensuring the advancement of the rights of child.
UAE signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1997 and presents to the UN Committee periodic reports, which details the measures adopted by the country in the field of protecting children's rights.
UAE presented its first report to the UN committee earlier in 2002 and is currently preparing its second report.
Speaking on this occasion, Noura Al-Suwaidi, Director of GWU and chairwoman of the executive committee of the Supreme Council for Maternity and Childhood, said that the rights of children were duly guaranteed and protected in the UAE, thanks to the efforts of HH Sheikha Fatima.
