Abdullah bin Zayed holds talks with NATO, ISAF leaders

Lisbon - UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held side talks with a number of NATO and ISAF leaders during the NATO Summit held in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, on November 19-20.
During the meetings, UAE's commitment to contribute to promoting peace and economic prosperity in Afghanistan was affirmed.
The leaders along with the delegates whose countries participate in International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, expressed their appreciation for the UAE under the leadership of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the UAE's role in contributing to the operations to maintain security, stability and reconstruction of Afghanistan.
The meetings were attended by the members of the UAE delegation accompanying Sheikh Abdullah to the Lisbon summit, including Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organisations Affairs Dr Saeed Mohammed Al Shamsi, Major General Issa Al Mazrouei, UAE Ambassador to Belgium Mohammed Salem Al Suwaidi, Saqr Nasser Al Raisi UAE Ambassador to Portugal, and Mohammed Al Khaja, Director of the Foreign Minister's Office.
In a statement to Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Raisi highlighted the importance of UAE participation in this important meeting with NATO leaders in addition to leaders of European Union, the United Nations and the World Bank and Japan.
The position of the UAE, announced by His Highness the Foreign Minister during the meeting was welcomed by the leaders as many participants expressed their appreciation for UAE's position, its wise leadership and its efforts in spreading peace, security and stability and economic and social prosperity in Afghanistan, and areas of unrest elsewhere in the world to contribute with the international community in creating a world of peace, security and economic prosperity instead of violence, tension and chaos.
He also expected the relations between UAE and NATO would witness further cooperation in the coming period as a result of the keenness of both sides to deepen their partnership in the framework of the "Istanbul Co-operation Initiative." – Emirates News Agency, WAM
