Captain Aysha Al Hamili elected Vice President of ICAO Council
Montreal - Captain Aysha Al Hamili, the UAE's permanent representative to ICAO Council, has been elected vice president of the Council for the period 2010-2011 at the Council meetings in its 191st session held recently in Montreal, Canada.
The unanimous election comes as a result of the active role played by the UAE's representative to ICAO through continuous work with specialised technical committees, efforts aimed at strengthening ties in the field of civil aviation between the UAE and many countries and successful representation of Arab interests at ICAO.
Commenting on the election, Saif Mohammad Al Suwaidi, Director General, GCAA stated that "this election comes in line with the UAE's active role in the international civil aviation sector and represents a continuation of the UAE's success in gaining the trust of most ICAO member states, which resulted in the recent re-election of the UAE to ICAO Council." "Headed by Captain Aysha Al Hamili, the team of the UAE's representative office at ICAO played a key role in representing the UAE's interests in the civil aviation sector at ICAO, enhancing the UAE's presence internationally, and stressing its commitment towards supporting ICAO's standards and plans in terms of safety, security and the environment and strengthening the role of Arab states in this important international organisation."
