Ghurair lauds outcome of GCC parliaments' meeting in Abu Dhabi as historic
Abu Dhabi, Nov 23, 2010 (WAM)- Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council (FNC) Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair lauded yesterday the outcome of the 4th regular meeting of the speakers of GCC Shura and Deputies Councils and National Assemblies as 'historic'.
He said the most important results of the meeting, which was hosted by UAE, were the approval of the statute of the coordinating committees and agreement on the activation of the GCC joint parliamentary diplomacy.
''A GCC parliamentary action plan has been chalked out to influence Arab, Islamic and international decision-makers and that there will be a complete accord and coordination in that respect,'' Al Ghurair said.
Al Ghurair, who chaired the meeting, indicated that the GCC speakers sense the need for the chairman of the fourth meeting to address the GCC summit in Abu Dhabi next month.
He added that a UAE proposal to hold an annual GCC parliamentary conference was deferred for further study.
He announced that he would lead a GCC parliamentary team to the European Parliament to explain concerns and aspirations of the GCC parliaments. ''The visit will be evaluated and its findings will determine the course of other visits to other parliaments of the world,'' he added.
Speaking about Yemen, Al Ghurair said its security and stability concern the GCC member states as a neighbouring country. He hoped the GCC countries would play a positive role in maintaining security, peace and stability of Yemen. He said that an international support for security in Yemen could be rallied in coordination with the Yemeni parliament. Yemenis can be invited to visit GCC parliaments or GCC MPs can go to Sana'a to boost the peace process there. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
