Hamdan bin Mubarak hails selection of UAE Pavilion as the best in Shanghai Expo 2010

Abu Dhabi, Dec 13, 2010 (WAM)- Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works '&' Chairman of the National Media Council (NMC), has expressed pleasure after UAE Pavilion was named by Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the most popular international pavilion at EXPO 2010.
Sheikh Hamdan attributed the huge success made by the UAE at EXPO 2010 Shanghai to the unlimited support given by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
This came as Sheikh Hamdan received yesterday Professor Liu Kang, Dean of the University's Institute of Arts and Humanities and leader of the survey, in presence of Saqr Ghobash, Labour Minister '&' former Chairman of the NMC.
During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan received the certificate declaring UAE Pavilion as the most popular international pavilion at EXPO Shanghai, according to a survey conducted by Jiao Tong University.
Sheikh Hamdan also commended the efforts made by the staff of the UAE Pavilion at EXPO 2010 Shanghai which ran for six months and attracted over 70 million visitors.
"The pavilion's mission evolved around highlighting the efforts being made by the nation in urban development and environment. The UAE will continue to take part in such international events to acquaint the world with the progress made in all fields, to help promote tourism and to attract businesses to the country, and to cement ties of friendship and cooperation with different countries of the world," he said.
"This recognition is a prestigious honour and a source of a great pride that will motivate us to continue the success in the forthcoming events. The pavilion's officials spared no efforts to make it the best in every way and the success made is the certainly the fruit of their labour." Professor Kang said "The survey goes with the spirit of EXPO which celebrates cultural diversity all over the world. The Chinese people loved UAE Pavilion because of the exceptionally attractive features offered there, and the stories told. I am sure that many Chinese who visited the pavilion are willing to visit the UAE.
Meanwhile, a research study conducted recently by University of South California's Annenberg School for Communication '&' Journalism, has named the UAE Pavilion as the Best Pavilion in terms of nation branding effort.
Jay Wang, CPD University Fellow and Associate Professor of public relations at the USC ASCJ said the result reflected the 'excellent effort by the UAE team in branding their nation through the pavilion'.
The United Arab Emirates Pavilion occupied a space of 6,000 square meters with the design depicting a huge golden sand dune inspired by the country's desert, looking as if it has been shaped by the wind. This made the pavilion shimmer and change colours, reminding visitors of the Middle East country's various natural environments. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
