Air traffic movements in UAE grew to 56654 in November

Dec 16,2010 (WAM)- The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced that air traffic movements in the UAE grew at a rate of 6.9 per cent in November 2010 compared to the same month last year.
The GCAA monthly report indicated that total air traffic movements in November 2010 were 56,654, with an average of 1888 per day, the highest daily number of air traffic movements in the last two years.
GCAA's monthly report for November 2010 showed the number of air traffic movements in each UAE airport.
Dubai ranked first with 25363 air traffic movements. Over flights stood next at 11938 air traffic movements. Abu Dhabi ranked third with 8293 air traffic movements.
According to the report, air traffic movements in Sharjah International Airport ranked fourth with 5323 movements. Local flights between UAE airports were in the fifth position with 4230 movements.
Fujairah International Airport witnessed 507 movements, while Al Ain Airport and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport had 173 and 310 air traffic movements respectively. Al Maktoum International Airport witnessed 133 shipping movements.
The report indicated that as far as air safety is concerned, GCAA completed 11 licensing transactions for aircraft maintenance companies, 26 aircraft registration certificate transactions and 44 airworthiness certificate transactions.
Further, GCAA conducted 28 inspections and audits, issued 8 air operator certificates, completed 5 aircraft modification transactions and issued 33 simulator certificates and 38 examination permits. In terms of SAFA system 2 foreign aircraft were inspected., and for (ROSI) system 86 aviation incidents were reported.
As for security and infrastructure operations, GCAA conducted 22 inspections and audits, prepared 221 airport control tower reports, held 21 internal and external meetings in relation to security and infrastructure operations with several institutions and companies operating in the field of civil aviation in the UAE, provided 2 emergency training courses, and issued 8 infrastructure safety violation tickets.
As for crew licensing, GCAA issued 225 new crew licenses, renewed 57 licenses, issued 100 temporary permits and 25 letters certifying aircraft license details, completed 113 type additions to licenses, issued 40 replacement licenses, and conducted 123 crew examinations, thereby bringing the number of crew licensing transactions in November 2010 to 683.
As for aircraft maintenance engineers licensing, GCAA issued 17 new licenses, renewed 69 licenses, completed 356 type additions to licenses, issued 4 replacement licenses and 17 temporary permits, and conducted 3 aircraft maintenance engineer examinations, thereby bringing the total number of aircraft maintenance engineers licensing transactions last month to 475.
Regarding aeromedical activities, the report indicated that GCAA issued and renewed 784 medical certificates in various qualified categories, appointed 4 medical committees to hold medical councils, approved 4 decisions by medical committees, and carried out 61 transactions to return crew licenses. As such, aeromedical-related transactions in November 2010 stood at 853.
Further, concerning air traffic controller transactions, the report showed that GCAA issued 7 new licenses, renewed 12 licenses, and completed 61 type additions to licenses. As for urgent service transactions, there were 296 crew transactions, 11 aeromedical transactions, 33 aircraft maintenance engineer transactions, and 60 aircraft crew card transactions. As such, urgent service transactions stood at 400.
Regarding training courses, there were 6 external courses attended by 6 trainees and 1 in-house course attended by 51 trainees.
Commenting on November report, Saif Mohammad Al Suwaidi, Director General, GCAA, stated that "there were two important events last month. The Sheikh Khalifa Government Excellence Program Award received by Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre highlights the use of modern technologies and applications in the aviation sector worldwide, and we will enhance such use in the future." – Emirates News Agency, WAM
