DEWA carries out a project to replace oil cables 132 KV at length of 60 km
Dubai, Dec 29, 2010 (WAM)- Within the framework of its relentless efforts to increase the reliability and operational efficiency of its grids and in continuation of its march towards excellence and to meet its customers' needs of uninterrupted and stable services, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has started to carry out a new project to replace oil cables 132 KV with other up-to-date cables of the same capacity.
The new cables are characterised by their reliability and efficiency.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, stated: "This project is part of a series of other projects aiming at the constant update of DEWA's infrastructure as well as raising its efficiency and capacity in order to secure delivering outstanding services at highest level of reliability. The oil cables which will be replaced have been in service at DEWA's electricity grids for a long time. It is feared that there will be oil leakage out of them.
Therefore, DEWA has taken this precautionary measure to ensure an uninterrupted supply to all consumers. The cost of this project will be 101.5 million dirhams." "The total length of the cables to be replaced reaches 60 Km. these cables will cover Al Satwa, Al Hudaiba, Riqat Al Buttain, Al Mankhol, Dry Dock. The project will be completed within 5 to 12 months according to each area. Additionally, work scope in this project includes systems of protection and the required amendments to connect these cables with DEWA's Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition System (SCADA)," Al Tayer added.
He said: "Dubai Electricity and Water Authority spares no effort to support and update its infrastructure through this project as well as other similar projects, which some of them are currently under construction while others are already in the pipeline." – Emirates News Agency, WAM
