Danat Al Ain Resort to welcome guests by early 2011: Hamdan

Abu Dhabi, Dec 29, 2010 (WAM)- Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chairman of National Corporation for Tourism and Hotels (NCT'&'H), has disclosed that Danat Al Ain Resort, a lush garden paradise and one of the Corporation's largest, magnificent resort in the oasis city, would welcome guests in early January 2010.
''The NCT'&'H will completely develop and modernise the luxury resort as a family and business tourism destination to cater for the phenomenal growth in the tourism sector in Al Ain, Sheikh Hamdan, also Minister of Public Works, said in a statement on the occasion.
He noted that Al Ain is witnessing a rapid tourist, cultural and constructional renaissance thanks to the wise leadership of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and instructions and follow up by H.H. Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
''The NCT'&'H is committed to keep abreast of this progress and is striving to diversify its tourist investment portfolio in Al Ain in order to deliver world class services to stimulate family, resorts and ecological tourism,'' he indicated.
Danat Al Ain Resort, formerly known as Danat Intercontinental Al Ain, is one of six hotels and resorts owned and managed by Danat Hotels and Resorts, part of the NCT'&'H.
On the NCT'&'H's expansion plans in Al Ain, Sheikh Hamdan said '' Al Ain is home to history and a cultural and social legacy of the Al Nahyan ruling family which is perpetuated by the great Al Jahili Fort, the then seat of government in the Eastern Region. Apart from being the home city of fathers and forefathers, Al Ain today is a venue of cultural, musical and artistic festivals and home to universities and colleges and signature historic sites, making it a favourite tourist destination not only in the UAE but also in the Gulf and Arab region.
Sheikh Hamdan said the NCT'&'H would join hand with Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) to market Al Ain' tourist, historic and cultural attractions through local and international tourism and travel exhibitions Outlining NCT'&'H's future plans, Sheikh Hamdan said the ongoing huge tourist and urban development in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi provides a catalyst to the NCT'&'H to forge ahead with its investment and expansion plans by establishing more luxury hotels and resorts to meet soaring growth in the tourism sector.
He unveiled that the Corporation is planning to carry out new tourist projects in the tune of Dh 2 billion, adding that the future of tourism industry in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi ''is promising'' given its prominent status in the world tourism map, and as a premier investment hub attracting billions of local and foreign investment.
The Corporation, he added, had made stellar performance in 2010 and is set to achieve better results in 2011. He noted that after the Danat Al Ain Resort, the Corporation's investment expansions would feature adding significant facilities to the Tilal Liwa Hotel, which has recorded amazing performance beating all expectations. Sands Hotel in Abu Dhabi will be fully renovated to cater for businessmen.
Sheikh Hamdan said he was optimistic about the outlook of the Abu Dhabi tourism sector in 2011 in light of the ADTA's holistic marketing plans to attract 1.9 million guests and Etihad Airways' plan to operate new flights to tourist destinations and attract holidaymakers from across the world to Abu Dhabi.
He said the Corporation would modernise the group of hotels and resorts its owns and manages so as to play a vital role in the progress of local tourism industry.
Sheikh Hamdan expected the current growth in tourism to gain more momentum and to contribute to creating new solid foundations and competitive edge in light of the mega cultural and tourism projects on the Saadiyat Island and recently launched Desert Islands.
''With the mega under-construction projects in Abu Dhabi, the future carries more prospects for economic and tourist growth and recovery ...........These projects indicate that Abu Dhabi is on the promise of a tourist breakthrough driven by the economic boom,'' he added. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
