Islamic countries condemn terrorism, says Al Ghurair

Abu Dhabi, Jan 12, 2011 (WAM)- The UAE dismissed claims that Muslims are trying to rid the Middle East entirely of Christians, a top official said on Tuesday according to a report in "Gulf News."
Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair, Speaker of the Federal National Council, said all Muslim countries condemn what are apparently vicious and cowardly acts of terrorism against innocent civilians.
"We all know that terrorism has no religion and targets the entire world population be they Muslims, Christians or [those] embracing other religions," Al Ghurair said as he announced the UAE's hosting of meetings of the parliaments of the Organisation of Islamic Conference from January 16 to 19.
"We strongly reject claims about a plot to rid Middle East of Christians. On the contrary, we strongly condemn terrorist acts or any incidents that affect in any way their existence in the region,"
Al Ghurair said, stressing Christians have been living in their homelands in the region together with their Muslims brothers for hundreds of years now. Al Ghurair was asked to comment on the claims of an Egyptian priest who spoke of a plot that extremists want to rid Middle East of Christians.
He said the OIC parliaments meeting will also tackle the parliaments' role in maintaining political and civil rights of Christians in the Middle East. – Gulf News
