330,000 people visit Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in January
Abu Dhabi, Feb 10, 2011 (WAM) - Around 330,000 people visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (SZGM) last January, an increase of ten percent compared to December 2010, says a press release.
January 29 witnessed the highest turnout with a record-breaking 29,000 visitors from around the world.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre seeks to acquaint visitors with the SZGM landmarks. These reflect the aesthetics and characteristics of Islamic arts in Abu Dhabi, and display them to the public through regular informative tours organised by the Centre. The tours start every day and run from 9:00am until 8:00pm. A number of UAE guides provide a detailed explanation about the mosque and its architectural significance in Abu Dhabi, the UAE and the region.
A number of visitors expressed their admiration for the Mosque, which is a symbol of tolerance and promotes the values of coexistence between different religions and civilisations, noting that the mosque is a true image of the values and concepts that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God bless his soul, instilled in the hearts of his sons, people and nation.
Visitors also praised the Centre's library, including its books, rare manuscripts and encyclopaedias about the Islam, its civilisation and relationship with the rest of the world civilisations, making it a distinct regional and international reference in this regard.
They stressed that the library will contribute to the restoration of the mosques' absent civil role as it was in Islam's thriving eras.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs is sponsored and supported by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
The Centre was established to act as the nucleus of the intellectual and cultural movement, with the focus firmly on the mosque. This focus is based on the national cultural values attached to the Mosque, which reflect concepts and values that were enshrined by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. These values are rooted in the public awareness and conscience, and are an outreach of the national identity that has been inspired by the teachings of our religion. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
