UAE Military personnel to climb Morocco's Mount Toubkal
A group of UAE military personnel has arrived in Morocco to prepare for climbing Mount Toubkal, the highest in all Arab countries and the second highest peak in all Africa at 4167 meters. The 21 strong group of climbers will settle in a training camp at 2600 metres to cope with physical low temperature (5 to 20 degrees) challenges high altitudes pose to the human body.
The trek is in line with directive with the UAE Armed Forces GHQ and aims to sharpen the skills of the group who will attempt the ascent in a set period of 5 days. Mount Toubkal peak is situated 40 miles (60 km) south of Marrakech in the High Atlas (Haut Atlas) range. The military group of climbers, last year, climbed to Island Peak, 6189 metres, which is also known as Imja Tse and is one of the most popular trekking peaks in Nepal for climbing on Himalayas. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
