RCA commences campaign to vaccinate over two million Pakistani children
Karachi - Feb 21, 2011 (WAM) - Team of volunteers of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA), including medical and nursing cadres have commenced campaign to vaccinate over two million Pakistani children against measles and polio in coordination with United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
The campaign is funded by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of General Women's Union and of Family Development Foundation. The move comes in line with concerted humanitarian efforts being fostered by the UAE in solidarity with the victims of floods, and in translation of the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to support those affected by the floods in Pakistan.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, Chairman of the RCA follows up the RCA efforts to implement the campaign being financed by Sheikha Fatima to immunise 2. 494 million Pakistani children in Sindh region in coordination with both UNICEF and the Pakistani Ministry of Health.
At arrival the medical team held a coordination meeting with UNICEF officials and the representatives of the Health Ministry in Karachi to set schedules for the campaign, which will step up efforts in 18 areas in Sindh region at 188 vaccination centres with participation of 402 local support teams to spread awareness among the targeted teams about the importance of vaccination against measles and polio.
Earlier the RCA launched the campaign to vaccinate children and women in the flood stricken areas in Khayber region against polio, measles and tetanus. 650, 000 women and children were vaccinated in the first phase, and followed by the vaccination of 850, 000 beneficiaries in the second phase. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
