Dubai Customs foiled bid to smuggle 51 fraud credit cards heading to the local use via Dubai Intl Airport
Dubai, Feb 28, 2011 (WAM) - Dubai Customs at Dubai International Airport has foiled bid to smuggle 51 counterfeit bank credit cards valued at Dh1million by an Asian passenger who intended to smuggle them to the local use.
Ali Almaghwai, Senior Manager of Airport Passenger Operation Department, explained the details of the scam saying the international cooperation for information exchange and high efficiencies of Dubai Customs inspectors led to successful seizure of the smugglings. The information disseminated to the Dept revealed two passengers coming from an Asian country hide some counterfeited credit cards in their baggage with intention of smuggling them via Dubai Intl Airport.
When they arrived at Dubai Int. Airport, they were put under close surveillance by two experienced inspectors specialised in the technical control operation available tools.
After passing the baggage through the scanning machine, they were manually inspected at the presence of their owners. The inspectors put a hand on 50 counterfeited credit cards with different names of persons and some international banks hidden in secret pockets in one of the bag, and another card found in a handbag with the second passenger along with a forged passport which evidently reflects the intention of the accomplices to move across countries where they intended to use the false cards and then run away.
Ali Almaghawi emphasised that within the framework of coordination and cooperation with Dubai Police, the two fraudsters were nabbed and apprehended along with the seizures to the Airport Security Department to take the necessary action and precede the case. He stressed on the importance of exchanging information in the field of customs, and Dubai Customs' keenness to enhance that. Smugglers always attempt to use misleading ways and using fake credit cards in the local market and this will consequently cause harm to economic and society and we do our best to control such activities, he added. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
