Abu Dhabi, March 22, 2011 (WAM) - Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade has expressed her desire to further boost trade and investment ties with State of Jersey in the coming years. "In light of the positive economic growth being witnessed by both our countries, and in the world in general, we expect that the momentum of our bilateral trade activities will progress even further We particularly look forward to enhanced cooperation in areas such as trade and investment; energy and climate change; international development; culture; education; health and sports; and consular relations throughout 2011", She said at the reception at the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi to mark the opening of the Jersey Finance office in Abu Dhabi.
She noted: "Over the past years, we have followed the rapid development of Jersey's economy. We see today that its finance sector provides 50 per cent of its GDP and 60 per cent of government income tax".
Tourism is also very important to Jersey, both in terms of the revenue generated for the economy and its underlying infrastructure. "Like Jersey, the UAE has also been developing its financial and tourism industries, and believes that closer cooperation between our two sides in these fields and in other sectors, such as education and training, will further develop the already firm partnership we enjoy", Sheikha Lubna added.
Certainly the opening of new Finance Office in Abu Dhabi will enhance the position of UAE on the world map as a trade, finance and economical hub and will also pave the way for greater cooperation in the future between the two nations. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
