Zayed International Charity Race to be held in New York in May
Abu Dhabi, March 24, 2011 (WAM) - In implementation to the directives of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Annual Memorial Zayed International Charity Race will be held in Central Park New York, on May 2011.
The 10-km road race, being held to raise funds for the National Kidney Foundation, is supported by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, and followed up by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. The event is being held under the banner of the UAE embassy and with the support of New York Road Runners.
The Executive Committee of the race yesterday held a meeting at Armed Forces Officers Club in Abu Dhabi, under the chairmanship of Lt. General (r) Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, whereas they reviewed the comprehensive report submitted by Staff Colonel Pilot Mohammed Ali Amer, Director of the race, following his return from New York after signing a two year contract with Road Runners American company.
The Committee also decided to seek advice of Noura Al Suwaidi, Director General of General Women's Union, Chairwoman of the UAE Committee of women's sports for nomination of Commission representative in the race's official delegation in recognition of charitable role played by women's sports under the care and support of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairwoman of UAE General Women's Union and Family Development Foundation.
Registration is open to participate in the race through the website of charitable sports event. The number of people that have registered so far is three thousand, seven hundred and sixty five from all over the world. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
