CEO of the Milan Expo 2015 Giuseppe Sala has expressed his hope for an impressive national pavilion and participation of the UAE in the non-commercial universal exposition which will be staged in 2015 under the theme ''Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life''.
The UAE, he affirmed in an interview with WAM, is one of world's heavy weight countries when it comes to outstanding engagement and presence.
According to him, the UAE pavilion has made waves in elapsed at China's Expo 2010 Shanghai, Spain's Expo 2009 Zaragosa and other major world gatherings.
He commended efforts the Minister of Public Works and Chairman of the National Media Council (NMC), Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, is making to highlight UAE's participation in Expo events. ''Italy welcomes the UAE national pavilion to present its civilisation, and economic, urban, environmental, cultural and tourist progress and achievements to the peoples of the world,'' he said.
''We always follow the UAE's participations in Expo events which are a source of satisfaction and admiration ............. the UAE's achievements form a qualitative addition to the humanity as the UAE leadership has beaten the harsh desert weather and natural circumstances to turn the UAE into ideal cities for living at the highest standards of luxurious lifestyle,' he noted.
''Milan Expo 2015 provides an ideal platform to showcase the UAE's staggering achievements which demonstrate the sagacity of the leadership and loyalty of the people and commitment to modernisation and comprehensive, sustainable development,'' he explained.
He added that the constructions works were progressing well to prepare the site of the Expo by the end of 2011.
''The Italian government will plough Euros 12 billion in investment on the infrastructure from roads, airports, transports and other support services and another Euros 1.7 billion on preparation of the one million square metre venue,'' he indicated. Revenues, he said, would be huge the most important of them is a creation of about 60,000 job opportunities for ten years and projected direct revenues at Euros 24 billion according to a study by University of Bokun.
He disclosed that the Italian Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi had sent invitation to 130 heads of state to participate in the event.
Expo 2015 will be an extraordinary universal event displaying tradition, creativity and innovation in the business of food. It will bring together many themes that have already been handled by this event in the past, and set them out anew in light of new global possibilities whose common core is the idea that everyone on the planet should have access to food that is healthy, safe and sufficient. Workshop and debate themes include: Improving food quality and security: the security of having enough food to live on, and an assurance that the food is healthy and the water drinkable; Ensuring healthy and high-quality nutrition for all human beings, doing away with the hunger, drought, infantile mortality, and malnutrition that still afflict 850 million people on this planet, and extirpating famine and pandemic disease; Preventing the new epidemics and diseases of our time, including obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, by championing practices that have proven to be effective; Promoting innovation in research, technology, and business practices along the entire food supply chain to improve the nutritional value, conservation, and distribution of foods; Providing education in proper nutrition and encouraging more healthy lifestyles, especially among children, adolescents, the disabled, and the elderly; Enhancing the value of cultural and ethnic heritage as expressed in culinary traditions.
Food is vital for the sustainable development of good quality, reliably available nutrition, respect for the fundamental life needs of every human being, and health.
Expo 2015 offers a great communication and promotion venue for primary producing communities, farmers, food firms, the logistics and distribution chain, the restaurant and catering industry, research centres, and any company seeking: to make the most of innovation and production technologies that generate a healthy food product; to do business in food preparation and conservation, enhance the professional skills of their managers and staff, and improve their communication with the consumer; to guarantee the quality of their food by using appropriate protection and monitoring systems to combat counterfeiting and adulteration. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
