UAE relief team continues operations at Libyan-Tunisian borders

Abu Dhabi, April 3, 2011 (WAM) - As the transit camps for thousands of migrant workers who have fled the fighting in Libya continued to expand, the UAE relief team continued its humanitarian operations on ground.
The relief operations, in implementation of the directives of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the relief workers kept themselves busy providing food aid, medical supplies and shelter to the refugees and helping them to get repatriated to their home countries.
Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Abdul Aziz, head of the UAE relief team, said that the humanitarian operations targeted both the Libyan citizens as well as the migrant workers fleeing the warfare.
The relief convoys continued to arrive at the Ras Jdir camp to assist thousands of the displaced and stranded people at the Libyan-Tunisian borders to ease their suffering amid dire conditions, he added.
He also said that the humanitarian efforts were taking place in coordination with the Tunisian Red Crescent Authority, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other humanitarian international organisations. The 700 makeshift tents in the camps managed by the UAE relief team are capable of sheltering up to 7000 refugees.
Over 250 tonnes of medicines, essential food supplies and blankets have been distributed during the last few days. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
