Drydocks World begins official talks to forge co-operation with Singapore's EDB
Dubai, April 5, 2011 (WAM) - Drydocks World has begun official cooperation discussions with the Economic Development Board (EDB), which is Singapore's lead government agency that plans and executes economic strategies for business and investment.
Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of the Board of Drydocks World and Maritime World and Tan Choon Shian, Deputy General Manager of Singapore's Economic Development Board along with the accompanying delegation held discussions after a formal visit to the recently concluded Offshore Arabia Conference '&' Exhibition.
Cooperation frameworks, coordination and a range of business opportunities available in both Dubai and Singapore, in the industries related to marine support services and logistics were discussed. Buamim explained in detail to the guests the ongoing reorganisation, new aspirations, business strategy development and ongoing stages of implementation at Drydocks World. He also briefed the guests on projects showcased at the Drydocks World stand and their significance in the larger context of the industry.
"The vision and tireless efforts of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai has been all encompassing and has contributed to the growth maritime industries, but also highlighted the significance of Dubai and the UAE on the global platform for its heightened operations in shipping services, trade and maritime industries. Dubai is the hub of global maritime operations and Drydocks World and Maritime World support the strategic shipping sector in the region. The Government of Dubai supports and endorses trade and economic activities across sectors," said Buamim.
He also highlighted the possibilities of co-operation and emphasised Drydocks World and Dubai Maritime City role in offering specialised services for the maritime industries, the new strategy to support the energy sector, oil and maritime transport and logistics and ways to develop and expand operations and services, including forums to represent and promote Dubai and the UAE's system of maritime transport at international levels.
Shian explained the renewable energy and maritime industry related plan for Singapore until 2021, and the importance of discussion and exchange of experiences with Drydocks World, a large investor in Singapore and assured EDB's support for the economic development of Drydocks World companies operating in Singapore.
He expressed happiness at the new strategic plans that have been put in place at Drydocks World and its operations and services offered to the maritime industry and invited Buamim to visit Singapore and to have follow-up discussions with EDB. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
