UAE officially enforces the Istanbul Convention for Temporary Entry

Abu Dhabi, April 13, 2011 (WAM) - The UAE officially implemented the Convention on Temporary Admission (the Istanbul Convention) early this month. The move comes within the framework of the UAE commitments with Gulf Cooperation Council for Arab States to encourage trade, boost exhibitions and conferences'' tourism.
Federal Customs Authority (FCA) announced in a statement that the enforcement of the Istanbul Convention comes after the FCA and the Dubai Chamber for Commerce and Industry (DCCI, completed all the required measures with the GCC customs authorities.
It added that the local customs departments and the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry have selected the DCCI as a guarantor for mandatory customs duties on commodities and items that enter into the country for participation at the exhibitions and conferences. The statement noted that the FCA has implemented all the required legal, administrative and awareness procedures to enforce the convention.
It indicated that the implementation of temporary entry procedures referred to in the convention, aims to encourage trade, develop customs duties and encourage holding of international trade, industrial and agricultural fairs. The UAE was one of the first GCC countries to sign the Istanbul Convention at the end of 2010. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
