Hawksbill turtles released in UAE

Abu Dhabi, April 17, 2011 (WAM) - A group of about 350 enthusiastic UAE residents was up bright and early on a recent morning, to witness the release of 40 rehabilitated hawksbill turtles into the sea at the Ghantoot reserve according to a report in "Gulf News."
What was really thoughtful and commendable was that the Emirates Marine Environmental Group (EMEG) volunteers not only showed us their precious treasure before the release, but also invited young children to see the turtles up close as they gingerly made their way into the sea.
It was fascinating to see the look of awe on the children's faces and I firmly believe that the lessons those children and I learnt will last a lifetime. Hats off to EMEG for nursing the turtles back to health and for making this release possible.
Let us hope the community has more such reasons to celebrate and that the turtles released today will be back to lay their eggs, and the cycle will go on. – Gulf News
