UAE Ambassador to U.S Yousef Al Otaiba inducted to the International Fellows Hall of Fame at the National Defence University
Washington, D.C. - May 1, 2011 (WAM) - UAE Ambassador to U.S Yousef Al Otaiba was inducted into the International Fellows Hall of Fame at the National Defence University (NDU) at Fort McNair in Washington, DC. In being inducted into the Hall of Fame, Ambassador Al Otaiba joins a distinguished group of senior government and military officials who have demonstrated "enduring military, diplomatic, or humanitarian contribution to international peace and stability".
Al Otaiba served as an International Fellow at NDU in 2000. The International Fellows Program provides professional military education to senior military officers and defence officials from allied and friendly nations of the United States. The program established the Hall of Fame to recognise distinguished graduates.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Al Otaiba was honoured by Major General Joseph Brown, Commandant of the Industrial College of the US Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Ann E. Rondeau, President of the NDU, and Ambassador Thomas C. Krajeski, Senior Vice President of NDU. Former US
Secretary of Defence William S. Cohen also attended the event besides senior UAE embassy officials.
In remarks given during the ceremony, Ambassador Al Otaiba credited NDU's International Fellows Program for assisting him to further his diplomatic outreach and build lasting relationships. Upon completion of the International Fellows Program, the Ambassador said he felt "a renewed sense of purpose and urgency in my service to my country".
Ambassador Al Otaiba also commended graduates of the International Fellows Program for maintaining high standards in the practice of international relations.
Ambassador Al Otaiba said "I believe that we endeavour to create a climate safe for dialogue among diverse peoples with divergent and often competing interests. We aim to protect against those who may wish to disturb and disrupt against the stability and security of our countries".
The Ambassador continued, "whether warriors or statesmen, we prepare ourselves daily to face those moments of great opportunity, moments where crisis seeks to stifle human progress. It is toward that end that we come here to NDU-to learn, to grow in leadership and service, and to fellowship in the pursuit of great common purposes -- the purpose of peace, the purpose of progress, the purpose of promoting a secure future for our children". - Emirates News Agency, WAM
