Over 300 Emirati at Abu Dhabi Classics special concert

Abu Dhabi, May 3, 2011 (WAM) - More than 300 young Emirati experienced a unique performance by one of the world's most renowned opera houses, Italy's Teatro La Fenice at an Abu Dhabi Classics "Young People's Concert".
A special version of Giaocchino Rossini's opera Barbiere di Siviglia", one of the masterworks of opera literature, was introduced to students last Thursday from institutions such as Sheikh Zayed University, Al Ain Women's College, Abu Dhabi Men's College, Abu Dhabi Women's College, Al Ittihad Boys School, Al Mawaheb Model School for Girls, amongst many others.
After starting with 4 schools in the first season, Abu Dhabi Classics, now in its third season, has expanded the number of partnering education institutions to more than 30 schools and universities. "To bring significant artists to Abu Dhabi is a great achievement and the Abu Dhabi Classics series has emerged into one of the most important corner stone of Abu Dhabi's cultural live. But to bring the same artists together with young Emirati generation, is an indispensible and sustainable ground work towards our future and underlines the educational importance of Abu Dhabi Classics", said H.E. Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Advisor for Culture and Heritage in the Court of His Highness the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Director General of ADACH.
The sold-out gala concert the following night, marked the full UAE premiere of Rossinis's "Barbiere die Siviglia", a turbulent tale filled with high-flying vocal fireworks. The outstanding theatrical and musical level of the cast created an unforgettable experience: "The performance was probably the best, I ever saw!" stated one of the enthusiastic visitors.
The third Abu Dhabi Classics season ends on May 7 with the BBC Concert Orchestra, lead by Keith Lockhart and presents a gala concert "From Broadway to Hollywood". The repertoire ranges from George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein to songs from Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
