A book on the UAE Armed Forces issued
Abu Dhabi, May 8, 2011 (WAM) - A book on the UAE Armed Forces has been issued to mark the 35th anniversary of the UAE Armed Forces Unification. Titled: "The Register of Honour and Humanitarian Achievements", the book written by Nasser Al Dhahiri was issued in three languages: Arabic, English and French.
The book is presented to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder and builder of the UAE Union.
It is introduced by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces: "Armed tribal men have always represented the core of the Armed Forces, the defence shield of their land and the thorn in the side of their enemies. They have always been loyal to their tribal leader carrying out his orders. They have always been ready to execute the assigned tasks. They had their own castles, strongholds and towers. From their headquarters, the last defence positions, they practiced scouting and surveillance and held high their own flags, the black banners, at times of wars.
They sang hymns and recited poetry to boost the morale and uphold the enthusiasm. The mainstays of these forces were mostly infantrymen, who were very well acquainted with the terrains, the geography and the borders of the region. At the same time, there were maritime forces which made and owned ships, had cannons on board and equipped the crew. They used to patrol the coastline during the reign of the Great Zayed (1855-1909). Both maritime and land forces had reached different areas in the Gulf waters and the Arabian Peninsula. Successive generations throughout history have spoken to us of such events and foreign travellers narrated them in their diaries. Over the centuries, these encounters were archived in the records of foreign forces prior and post their presence in the region.
Given the great steps our Armed Forces have taken in the last four decades and the exceptional progress they have made on the local, regional and international levels, it is imperative today to mark the outstanding manifestations of this progress. We ought to record what has been looked at and felt by many people as the demonstration of the great attitude of our forces during crisis and hard times as well as the translation of courageous actions taken by them within the framework of paying back a favour or participating in operations in accordance with the military code of honour.
As these steps and actions were performed with noble intentions, we thought they must be archived in memory of the former generation i.e. those men and women who exerted tremendous endeavours, persevered, and took on huge sacrifices to carry these actions out and pave the way for the next generation to learn from their trials and follow their path accordingly.
As historians describe battles, defeats and victories of armies during the time of war, we think that we ought to shed light on the noble humanitarian deeds of armies during the time of peace as well as the times of hardship '&' crisis. This reflects the fraternal bond between humans.
The sense of duty and commitment to honour and dignity compels us to support our brothers in humanity through mobilising our capacities and expertise for the sake of the great good of mankind in accordance with the peace-cantered policy that puts the welfare of human beings of the entire globe on the top of its priorities. This very policy that was adopted by our leader, the founder of our country and the sponsor of our blessed renaissance, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
I cannot afford to forget, in this brief preface, to extend my gratitude and appreciation to all those who helped in forming our Armed Forces and served accordingly with due diligence and sincere dedication so that our army continued to progress and develop. Thanks to all those who significantly or moderately participated in establishing this force which we currently consider to be the pride of our nation.
The effective peace-cantered role that has been played by the UAE Armed Forces can be considered as a good example for other armies to follow in the Gulf, the Arab countries and the world.
We are proud of our loyal soldiers and pay great tribute to our dear martyrs who lost their lives in serving our country. We greatly appreciate the tremendous efforts made by those who participated in laying out the foundations of our Armed Forces to safeguard our country and hold high the banner of justice and duty. Those men and women who manifested their loyalty to the UAE founder's vision and spirit, time and time again.
Thanks to the comrades who continue to devote their powers '&' capacities in serving the Armed Forces, re-emphasising the country's good reputation and interpreting the leader's and his righteous successor's goals on the ground. The UAE founder's successor, H.H. the UAE current president and the Supreme commander of the Armed Forces Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the man who prudently advices, wisely leads, and limitlessly supports the Armed Forces so that our army would become one of the best -equipped, top- trained, science-cantered, technology-advanced, morally-driven, noble-oriented '&' military-ideal armies in the world.
I appeal to our sons and daughters to focus on education, work and sense of belonging so that they follow in the footsteps of our leader, the founder of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and meet the expectations of his great hopes and vision that he laid down for them and spent all his life to join its pieces together.
Today, his dream has turned into reality and his plans into great success as we have moved from being a small, under-developed and forgotten separate emirates into a well-renowned and developed union of emirates that is stable, secure, politically, socially, economically, culturally, and militarily viable, a country which has contributed to the revival of the human civilisation.
The UAE is a country that has secured a prominent place on the world's map. It has become today a landmark of devotion, determination, goodness, generosity, and development. It has never refrained from extending its hand to its brothers, friends, neighbours and the needy anywhere in the world.
As our Armed Forces had its presence in Lebanon, Somalia, Kuwait, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan during the turbulent times, it has continued to carry out its duties in a number of areas across the world. This is the mission of our government, Armed Forces and our president H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may Allah protect him. This is our message of peace to the entire world and its inhabitants so that our planet will remain green, secure '&' stable and all humans remain dignified and free.
