FM: European Parliament's resolution on Azerbaijan causes at least confusion and many questions (UPDATE)
The details were added after the second paragraph (the first version was posted at 2:54 p.m.)
Azerbaijan, Baku, May 13 / Trend S. Agayeva /
Adopting the resolution by the European Parliament causes at least confusion and a lot of questions amid the current accelerated process of reforms aimed at promoting democracy in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry official representative Elkhan Polukhov told Trend, commenting on the resolution on the critical situation of human rights and democracy in Azerbaijan adopted by the European Parliament.
"Moreover, the resolution is of unilateral and biased nature," he said. It is too politicized and largely based on unverified data that does not reflect the reality."
The accusations that there are barriers to freedom of speech, the debts are liquidated and grants are given in the country where media representatives, including the opposition members have been provided with financial support traditionally for many years, are illogical and biased, Polukhov said.
While the situation with freedom of speech and human rights in Azerbaijan is better than in neighboring countries, the resolution adopted towards Azerbaijan does not correspond to the relations between Azerbaijan and the European Parliament and may seriously harm them, Polukhov said.
